Your annual support will help Capital Books build and expand our mission to be a welcoming and safe place for readers of all ages, ethnicities, orientations, and genders in Sacramento. Bookstores have a small margin. After paying for books, rent, and payroll, we usually only have 9% left over to pay all of our other bills. That doesn’t leave any room to experiment with new projects, invest in new programs, or easily give our staff higher wages or more hours. Every penny counts, and Ross counts them all every day.

This membership program is less about “free shipping” or “bigger discounts.” It’s a way for you to not only be more than just a customer, but to also be a critical part of our mission. We want to create a speakers program with the Crest, bring in more authors of diverse books, give more books away to our community in need, provide discounted book programs for schools, create internship programs for high schoolers with no work experience, and buy a trolley as a local bookmobile (to name a few things on our future list). As a customer, you’ve helped get us through nearly six years—most of which have been highly challenging. Now, as a partner, you can help us go beyond being a community bookstore to become a Sacramento literary institution.

The differences between the Single and Family tiers are probably most obvious when it comes to ticketed events. Families will be able to buy more than one limited ticket to an event or bring more people to something.

If you don’t join, we’ll still love you and take care of your needs. This program is for those interested, and able, to help us grow and build from where we are to where we’re going next.
