COME IN

Safety Precautions During COVID-19 (as of 3/19/20)

Following Governor Newsom’s shelter-in-place order effective at midnight March 19, we will not be allowing shoppers inside our store. Ross, Heidi, and Tom will be at the store processing orders for customers. Here are your shopping options during the quarantine:

  • Order your books from store.capitalbooksonk.com, then:
  • On the order screen, let us know if you prefer:
    • To have us ship your books
    • Our curbside pickup
    • Delivery (within Sacramento and Elk Grove)

We’re “hand-selling” books and games over our social media (look for CapitalBooksOnK), so pop on there for photos and videos. We are able to show more over Facebook and Instagram than Twitter, so we encourage those who want to visually see our products to hop onto one of those platforms.

ONLINE STORE

Nothing beats the experience of coming into our bookstore. We’d love to help you find the perfect book, but if you simply cannot make it in, we make it easy to find everything we’re carrying in the shop — and 12 million books in print — in our online store.

We’ll message you when the your order arrives, ship it to you, or you can take advantage of our new curbside pickup service.

CURBSIDE PICKUP

Safety Precautions During COVID-19 (as of 3/19/20)

Following Governor Newsom’s shelter-in-place order effective at midnight March 19, we will not be allowing shoppers inside our store. Ross, Heidi, and Tom will be at the store processing orders for customers. We’re offering curbside delivery as one option. Pull up in front of the Crest Theater (off of the lightrail tracks) and honk or flash your lights. Whomever is working that day will see you and run your books out.

CHATBOX

The benefit of shopping in our store is the knowledgeable staff who can recommend a book to you. But sometimes it’s not possible to come in. We’ve had a chat box on our website for several months. During this social-distancing time, it’ll be like having one of us in your back pocket (or phone or computer). Think of us as your mobile book concierce. Our chat box even operates beyond our normal business hours. You’ll still be reaching Ross, Heidi, Megan or Tom. We never contract this service out to anyone else. You’ll find the chat box on the bottom right side of our website.

Why not display books from the New York Times Best Sellers list? Well, we believe that displaying books in our store that are a direct representation of what our neighbors — the San Francisco Bay Area — are reading is a more accurate depiction of our area. You’ll find many of these books in the front of our store shelves and also here on our website that are available for purchase.

You’ll notice that several events below have been canceled. Many of the event coordinators or authors are heeding Governor Newsom’s advice about public gatherings. It is safe to assume that most, if not all, of these events will be rescheduled for a later date when restrictions are lifted. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

Our store is still open. As of March 12, no employee of ours has been sick, and we have increased our already fastidious cleaning regime around the store and bathroom.
